NATA Bobby Gunn Student Leadership Award Presented to ATEP Rising Senior Andrew Brubaker

EKU Athletic Training Student Andrew Brubaker Receives NATA Award

Andrew Brubaker as a rising senior in the EKU Athletic Training Education Program has won the NATA's Bobby Gunn Student Leadership Award a prestigious award given to one athletic training student in each of the NATA's ten districts.  Andrew was selected by the Southeast Athletic Trainer's Association as the winner from District 9.  

Ben Myers, A Senior ATEP Student Accepts PBATS: Professional Baseball Athletic Trainer Society Summer Internship

Ben Myers a rising senior athletic training student will be spending this summer as a Professional Baseball Athletic Trainer Society (PBATS)  Intern with the Houston Astros' Organization. Ben will report shortly after completing his finals to the Houston Astros' organization.  PBATS internships are competitive internships that athletic training students from around the country apply for and list there top three teams including major league or minor league clubs. Students are then selected by teams participating in the PBATS Internship program.

In the Battle of Ohio, EKU ATEP Undergraduate Alum 2011, on the left Spencer Deffner who is the Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for Ohio University's Baseball Team and on the Right is Jason Good, a former graduate assistant athletic trainer at EKU who graduated in 2010 with a MS in Physical Education Option in Exercise and Sport  Science.

Forty-one students from EKU's Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP)  represented EKU at the 27th Annual Southeast Athletic Trainers Association Student Symposium. In an article written by Abigail Funk in the October issue of Training and Condition, the future employment opportunities of athletic trainers are discussed. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted that in the 10-year period from 2008 to 2018, athletic training job opportunities will grow almost 37 percent. ATEP Student Selected for NFL Summer Internship with the Dallas Cowboys

EKU Athletic Training Student Bobby Feeback

October 31, 2011 -  Bobby Feeback who is completing his first year in the professional phase of the EKU Athletic Training Education Program, was offered and accepted a summer intership with the Dallas Cowboys. Bobby spent this fall applying to several NFL teams for internships and recieved an offer from the Cowboys a few days ago.    Bobby becomes the latest in a long line of EKU athletic training students to be selected for NFL Summer internships.

Changing of the Guard

Dr. Fuchs, Director of the Athletic Training Program for the last six years, was hired as the Chair for the Department of Exercise and Science at EKU effective July 1, 2016. During his tenure as Program Director, he was instrumental in increasing student enrollment, increasing the clinical experiences of our students, and pre-emptively developing and starting the new MS in AT degree. Though his leadership within the program will be missed, his guidance and support as the chair of our department will be greatly appreciated.

The EKU ATEP wants to congratulate the 2012 program graduates and wish them well as many head off to graduate school and others to start their athletic training career in their first positions.   The class of 2012 will be headed off to graduate assistant athletic training positions at  Indiana University,  Boston University, East Tennessee State University,  Hughston Clinic Athletic Training Fellowship, Marshall University, University of the Cumberlands, and a few will be starting their athletic training careers. The EKU ATEP looks forward to our new Alumn

Athletic Training Students Honored at the Exercise & Sport Science Department Awards Ceremony

EKU Athletic Training Students Receive Awards

Sophomore Kelsey Neuman, was honored first, as the Exercise & Sport Science Department Outstanding Sophomore and then was presented with the Charles "Turkey Hughes" Award which comes with a monetary award and is a competitive award where one candidate from the Department of Health Promotion and Administrations and  one from the Department of Exercise and Sport Science are interviewed by a joint committee who then select the winner.
