EKU AT Alum and NATA Presidential Candidate Awarded ESS Alumni of the Year!

Kathy Dieringer, Almna, Award Winner and Presidential Candidate

EKU Athletic Training Alumna, Kathy Dieringer, was awarded the Department of Exercise and Sport Science Alumni of the Year award in the Spring of 2020. The ceremony was cancelled due to the University response to the COVID-19 crisis but we want to shout out a great alumna and her contribution to the profession throughout the years since graduation!

Kathy Dieringer is currently a candidate for President of the National Athletic Trainers' Association among her many other notible contributions to the profession since graduation. She graduated from EKU with a Master's degree and served as a graduate assistant under Dr. Bobby Barton. Since then, she has worked clinically in the collegiate setting, taught as a preceptor and instructor in several athletic training programs, and has stepped out as an entrepeneur by opening several clinics near Dallas-Fort Worth, Tx. Professionally, she has served on a myriad of committees at the district and national levels that have focused on the role of women in athletic training, the never-ending nomenclature debate, and emerging practices. She has served on the Board of Directors for the NATA and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. She has held leadership at the district and national levels and is now seeking the opportunity to impact the profession by leading the NATA as President.

Throughout her career and in recognition of her multiple contributions, she has received numerous honors and awards. Her most notable award is her admission to the NATA Hall of Fame. This recognition is reserved for the best of the profession who have significant accomplishments and dedication to service, leadership and professionalism.

Of course, (*this is me putting words in her mouth!), her greatest joy is her connection to EKU and the impact that her education at EKU had on starting her prolific and impacting career!

Congratulations Kathy on a well-deserved honor!
