Dr. Sciascia Honored with Membership to the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons
EKU Athletic Training faculty member, Aaron Sciascia, PhD, ATC, PES, has been elected as an affiliate member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES)! ASES is a society designed to "support quality shoulder and elbow care through the ethical practice of leadership, medical education, research and qulity and patient advocacy."1 An affiliate member is characterized as a person who is a physician or recognized expert, who has contributed to the understanding of the shoulder or elbow and who is a resident of the United States or Canada. This person with rare exception will hold an advanced educational degree such as Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Medicine.
Membership in the Society is a privilege and is by invitation only. Dr. Sciascia’s nomination for membership came from one affiliate member and one active member. Sponsor forms were submitted on his behalf and he was required to complete a membership application denoting all contributions to shoulder and elbow literature and understanding over the past 5 years. After consideration of the supporting letters and membership application, the Membership Committee recommended to the Executive Committee that Dr. Sciascia be considered for affiliate membership.
Dr. Sciascia is only 1 of 3 athletic trainers who has been honored with this status, 1 of 7 members that comes from Kentucky and is the only AT who is not dual credentialed.
More regarding the purpose and "inner workings" of ASES can be found on their website.
