Chasing the Trophy
As athletic trainers, we are all familiar with the drive for glory that generally culminates at the end of a competitive season. The Final Four, Super Bowl, Olympics, World Cup, Playoffs, etc, all represent an end, but more so a promise. A promise of reward for hard work.
Each year SEATA and the NATA Foundation host a Student Quiz Bowl to choose a team to represent District IX at the NATA's Student Quiz Bowl during the NATA Clinical Symposia & AT Expo. Since its inception, EKU has entered a team with various results. This year the team started the school year with a mission to represent EKU and themselves well. As a matter of pride, this year's team; Chris Martin, Erin Robinson, Catherine Young and Amanda Dixon; began practicing with the start of the school year and met consistently through the fall and early spring semesters. Under the direction of this year's coach, EKU faculty Aaron Sciascia, the team met during early mornings along with a few other EKU students to study, review and practice.
Practice gives birth to the hope for reward. The competition started rocky and through perseverance the team overcame a deficit to rally for a 5th place finish, one of the highest finishes for EKU in the last few years. Besides the practice for the BOC, personal pride and the respect this team earned, the team, formally known as "Sabin's 8th Kid", ignited pride among other students within the program leading to whispers of next year.
PS. Just to clarify the confusion, "Sabin" does not have 7 kids to start with...nor is one on the way!
