From Bachelor's to Master's: The Degree Saga Concludes

CAATE Accredited Program - EKU MS in AT

On May 1, 2015, EKU’s Athletic Training Program began the process of transitioning from a BS in AT to a MS in AT degree by seeking a substantive change in degree from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). On August 17, 2016, the process was completed with these simple words from the President of the CAATE… “the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education has voted to accept the request for change of degree for the Athletic Training Program at Eastern Kentucky University.”

Such simple words have never been so happily received. Over the past year and a quarter we have been in a state of “hurry up and wait”. We have created and waited, revised and waited, and submitted the full application and corresponded with the review team consistently. In the middle of this process, we also admitted our first cohort of students into the MS in AT program. We have evaluated, planned, reevaluated, and implemented; all with this end in mind. And waited…until now.

Special thanks goes to Dr. Eric Fuchs, the current chair of our Department, and all the faculty that assisted in the work. These efforts honor those that have worked to build the program since its inception and helps to maintain the proud tradition that EKU is, and will be, the longest standing, accredited program in the Commonwealth.

Our last class of BS in AT students was admitted in May of 2016, phasing the program out by their graduation in May of 2019. All prospective students, who have completed the required pre-requisites and application will need to apply to the MS in AT program.
