FORMER PBATS PRESIDENT HONORED WITH DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

San Diego, Calif. — The Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) announced that the organization has awarded Richie Bancells, PBATS executive board member and Baltimore Orioles head athletic trainer, with the 2014 Distinguished Service Award. The announcement was made as a part of the annual Baseball Winter Meetings.

Bancells, a member of the Baltimore Orioles organization since 1978, currently sits on the PBATS executive board as the immediate past president, after serving the organization’s president for the past six years.

A certified member of the NATA, Bancells was a recipient of the 2011 NATA Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award. He is also a two-time recipient of the PBATS Athletic Training Staff of the Year award – 1995 with Jamie Reed and 2011 with Brian Ebel. Bancells is also a member of the American College of Sports Medicine.
